Discover Fergus, Ontario

Home to the Scottish Festival and the Highland Games, Fergus was originally settled by freed slaves turned Empire Loyalists granted this land in Garafraxa township after helping fight in the American Revolutionary War, and was named Pierpoint Settlement, after their leader Richard Pierpoint. In 1858 the town of Fergus was officially formed and named after its Scottish Founder Adam Fergusson, who purchased over 7000 acres of which were parcelled and only sold to other Scots, for many years, which in turn led to a defined style of architecture over those years.

These days its Scottish heritage is upheld through the games and festivals, while some lovely old architecture continues to be admired by old home buffs like myself! Take a peek!
